MIDORI/UKBG SUMMER WORLD CUP COCKTAIL COMPETITION
In May 2006 top bartenders from across the Thames Valley and South West regions gathered to compete in a Midori Cocktail Competition held in association with the United Kingdom Bartenders Guild.
The competition, held at Pennyhill Park Hotel in Surrey, required the contestants, (who were pitted against each other knockout - style), to progress through 2 rounds (Pre-Dinner and Long Drink) to qualify for the final, where they could create their own Midori Cocktail.
The very nature of Midori - fun versatile and fruity makes it perfect for bartenders to mix and create, and the final was an England - Italy affair, with Chris Underwood of South Lodge Hotel in Sussex up against Davide Trupia of The Manor House Hotel in Castle Combe.
Davide eventually came out on top in extra time winning Dinner for 2 in a top London Restaurant and overnight stay with his aptly named Cocktail "Momentum". Davide's winning recipe was made up of 3cl Midori, 2cl Galliano, 1cl Cherry Marnier and Orange Peel, garnished with Lemon peel and a strawberry.
Chris Underwood picked up the £200 2nd prize and in the 3rd and 4th place play-off.
Florien Pomaret of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Marlow beat Ryan Nicol of the Hotel du Vin Henley to the £100 prize.
