Once the drink has been shaken, tap the stainless steel part close to the rim to break the seal which lets you open the Shaker. Place the Strainer over the top of the metal half and strain the mixture into the glass. Never use a standard pint glass as it could easily shatter.

HAWTHORNE STRAINER

This flat-topped, perforated metal device has a continuous coil of wire around its perimeter, which helps keep the strainer in place. The short handle and either 2 or 4 "thumbs" that extend from the top and sides are designed to keep it in place on the metal half of a Boston Shaker.
